Winter dressing can feel tricky. The weather is unpredictable, layers feel bulky, & it’s easy to fall into the same few outfits on repeat. Instead of overhauling your wardrobe, this season is about small shifts — leaning into a few winter trends that add interest, warmth, & ease to what you already own.

Below are five winter trends I’m loving right now, along with ideas for how to style them using both new finds and pieces already in your closet.

1- BIG COATS

Women in stylish, oversized coats in various settings. Coats are fur, plaid, and colorful. Central text reads: "big coats." Cozy urban vibe.

Oversized, statement coats are having a moment, & for good reason. A great coat instantly elevates even the simplest outfit.

How to style it:

  • Let the coat be the hero: think jeans, a knit, & boots underneath.

  • Balance volume with slimmer layers underneath for an intentional silhouette.

  • Neutral tones (camel, charcoal, black) feel timeless, while texture or subtle pattern are more trendy.

Already own something similar? Try belting an oversized coat, rolling the sleeves to define your waist & add interest, or styling it open over a monochrome base to for a chic look

2- CHUNKY KNITS

People wearing chunky knit sweaters in various settings and colors, with the text "chunky knits" in the center. Cozy and stylish mood.

This winter, knits are less about being basic & more about shape. Think exaggerated sleeves, sculptural silhouettes, textured stitching, & interesting necklines. These are the kinds of pieces that make an outfit feel styled with very little effort.

How to style it:

  • Let the knit be the focal point. Pair with simple denim, tailored trousers, or a sleek skirt.

  • Balance volume on top with clean lines on the bottom.

  • Keep accessories minimal so the shape and details can shine.

Already own something similar? Look for knits in your closet with standout details- balloon sleeves, chunky cables, ribbed texture, or dramatic collars. Style them with your most simple bottoms to give them new life & finish off with a statement shoe.

3- MIXING TEXTURES

Fashion collage featuring cozy winter outfits in browns and grays, showcasing layered textures and accessories. Text in center: mixing textures.

If there’s one winter trend you can master without buying anything new, it’s this one. Mixing textures is all about contrast- pairing structured pieces with softer ones to create depth, balance, & visual interest. When an outfit feels a little “off” or unfinished, it’s often because everything is too similar in weight or fabric.

Winter is the perfect season to play with this. Think leather with knits, denim with wool, satin with chunky sweaters, or structured tailoring softened by cozy layers. The magic happens when opposites meet.

How to style it:

  • Pair something structured with something soft (a leather pant + a cozy knit).

  • Mix matte & shine (wool trousers + satin blouse).

  • Combine heavy textures with lighter ones to avoid looking bulky.

  • Keep the color palette simple so the textures do the work.

Already own something similar? Pull one structured piece & one soft piece from your closet & build the outfit around that contrast. You’ll be surprised how “new” your wardrobe can feel just by changing the texture balance.

4- BURGUNDY, CHOCOLATE & NAVY

Collage of fashion outfits in burgundy, chocolate, and navy. Features coats, accessories, and nail art. Central text: "BURGUNDY CHOCOLATE & NAVY."

Trends come and go, but rich, moody tones like burgundy, chocolate brown, & navy have always had a place in a well-built winter wardrobe. What makes them feel especially relevant right now is how they’re being styled in tonal looks, elevated textures, & relaxed silhouettes that feel modern without chasing trends.

These shades are a softer, more interesting alternative to black while still being just as versatile. They add depth, warmth, & polish to winter outfits, making even the simplest pieces feel intentional.

How to style them:

  • Try monochromatic outfits within the same color family for an elevated look.

  • Mix these tones together (burgundy + navy, chocolate + cream) for depth.

  • Use them as your “neutral base” instead of defaulting to black.

  • Lean into texture — wool, leather, knits, & satin make these colors feel rich.

Already own something similar? Pull one of these colors forward as your outfit anchor & build around it with neutrals you already have. It’s an easy way to refresh your winter wardrobe without starting from scratch.

5- PONCHOS

Women wearing stylish ponchos in various settings. Neutral tones, patterns, and textures create a cozy, stylish vibe. Text: "PONCHOS".

Ponchos are quietly having a moment again, but this time they’re less about boho flair & more about effortless layering. Think clean lines, elevated fabrics, & neutral tones that feel cozy & intentional. When styled simply, a poncho or cape-style layer can add interest to an outfit without requiring much effort.

This trend works especially well in winter because it creates warmth & dimension while still feeling relaxed. It’s also one of those pieces that instantly makes an outfit look styled, even if what’s underneath is very simple.

How to style them:

  • Layer over a fitted base or slim silhouette.

  • Keep the rest of the outfit streamlined to balance the volume.

  • Stick to classic colors like camel, black, gray, or cream for a more chic, timeless feel

  • Add structured accessories (boots, a leather bag) to ground the look.

Already own something similar? A wrap, oversized scarf, or structured shawl can give the same effect. You can use a belt to wrap the scarf & create the same vibe as a poncho. Focus on proportion (fitted underneath, draped on top) for an easy, polished winter outfit.

5 go-to outfit formulas for cozy dinners or casual get-togethers

The holiday season comes with cozy dinners, casual get-togethers, & those in-between moments when you want to look festive but still feel like yourself. Instead of reinventing your wardrobe or buying a whole new outfit for every event, these formulas make getting dressed simple.

Here are five outfit ideas that move effortlessly from everyday to holiday, all while staying true to a more relaxed, intentional style approach:

1- faux fur

Four women in stylish faux fur coats in various settings. Backgrounds include urban streets and a cozy interior. Text reads: "faux fur".

Faux fur instantly adds a touch of celebration without effort. Throw it over your everyday uniform- a knit top & denim, a simple dress, or a monochrome base- & it transforms the entire look.

Why it works:

  • Adds instant texture & holiday energy

  • Looks luxe while still being comfortable

  • Pairs effortlessly with pieces you already wear

Style note: Keep everything underneath simple so the fur can be the focus.

2- knit dresses & matching sets

Women in knit outfits, including dresses and co-ord sets, in various neutral colors are posing both indoors and outdoors. Text reads: "knit dresses & co-ord sets".

Knit dresses & co-ord sets are the sweet spot between comfort & celebration. They’re cozy enough for everyday wear but elevated enough for dinners & holiday gatherings. They also translate well from the office to the party.

Why it works:

  • Polished without being fussy

  • Comfortable for long evenings

  • Easy to style with boots, heels, or a structured coat

Style note: Choose clean silhouettes & let the texture do the work.

3- mixing textures

Stylish women in diverse textured outfits; fur, satin, velvet, knit. Indoor and outdoor settings. Text: "mixing textures".

If you want to feel festive without going full sparkle, try this favorite combo of mine. Mixing textures is the formula. Think- a chunky knit with leather trousers; an oversized blazer with a sequin skirt; a soft sweater paired with satin pants.

Why it works:

  • Adds depth without feeling overdone

  • Makes even simple pieces look intentional

  • Lets you dress things up or down depending on the event

Style note: Keep the color palette minimal for a more elevated, modern feel.

4- monochromatic everything

Fashion collage featuring four women in monochromatic outfits: cream, burgundy, black, and beige. Text reads "monochromatic everything."

A single-color look always feels pulled together- even when the pieces themselves are simple. Monochromatic outfits read chic, understated, & surprisingly festive when done with winter textures.

Why it works:

  • Creates instant cohesion

  • Allows you to play with tone & texture

  • Works for everyday errands & holiday dinners

Style note: Colors don't have to be an exact match, play with shades of a similar tone.

5- the oversized blazer

If there’s one piece that transitions seamlessly into the holiday season, it’s an oversized blazer. It sharpens up casual outfits & tones down dressier pieces, making it the ultimate in-betweener.

Why it works:

  • Adds structure to soft knits & dresses

  • Instantly elevates denim or trousers

  • Works for workdays, date nights, & holiday gatherings

Style note: Choose one with a more structured shape for a more tailored, elevated feel & add a rep lippie for a festive touch.

Take this as your friendly reminder that you don’t need to buy a whole new wardrobe for the holidays- you just need smart formulas & a few intentional layers to pull everything together. You got this!

How to Build a Smarter Wardrobe During Sale Season

There’s something about sale season that makes it so tempting to hit add to cart on every new arrival that catches your eye. The problem? Most of the time, those impulse buys end up taking up space- not adding value to your wardrobe.

But when you approach sale season with clarity & intention, it can actually become one of the best opportunities to refine your personal style & fill the real gaps in your closet.

Text "Buy Better, Not More" above folded pastel clothes on a beige background, promoting sustainable fashion.

Here are my tips for getting the most bang for your buck this holiday sale season-

1. Start with what you already own.

Before browsing a single site, take a look at your current wardrobe. What do you actually reach for on repeat? What’s missing when you’re getting dressed? This quick reflection keeps you focused on what you need, not what’s simply marked down.

2. Know your style words.

If you’ve defined your personal style words, now’s the time to let them guide you. They act like a filter- helping you scroll past trends that don’t align & spot the pieces that really feel like you.

3. Make a short, specific list.

Think about lifestyle gaps: Do you need versatile layers for work? Elevated basics? A great pair of everyday boots? Creating a clear list helps you shop intentionally instead of emotionally.

4. Prioritize quality over quantity.

It’s easy to get caught up in “deals,” but a smarter wardrobe is built piece by piece- with items that last, fit your lifestyle, & work in multiple outfits.

5. Shop with purpose.

Use this sale season to refine, not reinvent. You don’t need to start over; you just need to invest in what actually supports your style goals.

If you’re ready to approach this sale season with clarity and intention, my Outfit Planner is the perfect tool to help you do just that. It’s designed to help you identify wardrobe gaps, plan purchases that make sense, & finally create a closet that feels cohesive and effortless.

One last bit of advice- building a wardrobe you love isn’t about buying more- it’s about buying better.

Happy Shopping!
