You know those mornings when you’re standing in front of your closet, coffee in hand, feeling like you’ve somehow run out of clothes...again? Yeah, we’ve all been there.

That’s exactly why I love having a few go-to outfit formulas on standby. They take the guesswork out of getting dressed & make it so much easier to feel put together without overthinking it.

Listen, I’m all about making things simple & intentional, especially when it comes to my wardrobe. These three polished fall outfit combinations are the ones I’ve been reaching for lately when I want to look effortless, feel confident, & still get out the door fast. Each one has that “never miss” factor- easy to recreate, flattering on most body types, & endlessly versatile.

Before we jump in, think of these formulas as a starting point- not a rulebook. Use them to spark ideas, remix what you already own, & make getting dressed this fall feel a little easier. Let’s get into it.

  1. Basic, Blazer, Boots

Multiple people in chic blazers and jeans, showcasing fashion with accessories. Neutral background, diverse styles, confident mood.

If there’s one outfit combo that never fails, it’s a blazer & boots. It’s the perfect balance of structured and effortless- polished enough for the office, cool enough for the weekend. You can wear it year-round just by swapping the basic layer & shoes, which makes it one of those rare formulas that always looks intentional without trying too hard.

  1. Sweater + Wide Leg Pants

A collage of women modeling fall fashion with wide-leg pants and cozy sweaters in various colors. Neutral background, casual chic vibe.

When comfort meets polish, you get this combo. A cozy sweater paired with wide-leg denim or trousers is one of those effortless outfits that looks intentional every time. The proportions feel relaxed yet elevated, & it’s an easy way to transition your favorite knits from casual to chic. Whether you’re heading into the office or grabbing coffee on the weekend, this formula gives you that “put together without trying” energy we all love.

  1. White Button Down + Denim

Fashion collage featuring diverse women in stylish white shirts, jeans, and accessories. Neutral background, casual and chic vibe.

You can never go wrong with a classic white button-up & denim. It’s one of those timeless pairings that just works. The beauty of this combo is in its simplicity, but if you want to give it that modern, effortless feel, try playing with proportions. I love opting for an oversized fit (my favorites are usually thrifted from the men’s section) for that relaxed, lived-in vibe that still feels put-together. It’s an easy formula that looks good on everyone and never goes out of style.

And there you have it- three easy outfit formulas you can always fall back on when you “have nothing to wear.” Each one is simple, timeless, & endlessly versatile, which means you can make them your own with just a few swaps. Save this post for the next time you’re standing in front of your closet feeling stuck, & if you try one of these looks, be sure to tag me so I can see how you styled it!

Even though the weather doesn’t change much where I live, I always find myself wanting to refresh my style when fall rolls around. I don't know what it is, but this season always inspires me to look at my wardrobe with fresh eyes (maybe because it's my time of the year to dress).

With every new season, I really try my best to shop more intentional by using the rule of 5. The Rule of 5 helps me to smarter purchases by forcing me to think of at least 5 outfits I can wear with anything new I bring into my closet, with existing items from my wardrobe. This practice has really helped with my emotional shopping & just buying things because they're cute.

But before I get into my current fall wish list, I want to pause on something I’ve talked about before: knowing your personal style words. For me, they act like a compass. Trends will come & go, but when you know the words that ground your style—whether it’s effortless, refined, playful, edgy, or cozy—you can filter out the noise & invest in pieces that actually feel aligned. That’s when your wardrobe really starts working for you instead of just filling space.

So here we go, here's 5 items that I've had my eye on for fall & how I'd wear them-

  1. Oversized denim shirt

A collage of women wearing different styles of denim shirts

Believe it or not, I don't think I've owned a denim shirt in a long time. I love the idea of pairing with a blazer for an elevated casual look for the office, or go all-in on a full layered denim look. It's a classic staple for a reason, & I've identified this as a gap in my current wardrobe & a smart purchase that I'd get quite a bit of wear from.

  1. Rugby shirt

A collage of different women with different styles wearing a rugby polo shirt

Knit or jersey, you can't go wrong. While I admit, that the rugby shirt is a bit of a trendy buy vs a timeless staple. I think it's a trend worth investing in, if it aligns with your personal style words. Dress it up for the office with some tailored trousers & flats or pair with a blazer, some wide leg denim & pointed toe shoes. Or for a more casual look, play with contrasting vibes like preppy & sporty, as shown above.

  1. Short brown boots

a collage of different styles and shades of women's short brown boots

Last fall we really saw the trend shift to brown boots- short or tall. I wasn't sure if this was going to be a one-season fad or not, but it's safe to say brown boots are here to stay for this season. I've identified this as another gap in my own personal wardrobe, that's why they make my list. Current trendy show block heels & kitten heels will be popular again, along with pointed & square toe.

  1. Camo baseball hat

A collage of different women with different styles wearing camo baseball hats

Y'all know I'm a hat girly. Most of my hats are neutral colored (black, navy, tan) & I thought that a camo hat could be a fun casual pop to add to my weekend wardrobe.

  1. Western belt

A collage of different style of black leather wester inspired women's belts

I own a million black belts, but you know what I don't own? A western/vintage inspired black belt. I want to start adding subtle western bits to my wardrobe & I thought a belt would be a cute way to add a subtle western flair to an outfit. Pair it with some cute boots & a leather bag & let the accessories do the talking. The one I currently have is old & from H&M & the faux leather cover is starting to chip. It just looks cheap, so I'm keeping my eye out for a new one.

And that’s my little fall wish list! I love how each of these pieces ties back to my personal style words, while still giving me room to play with trends in a way that feels authentic. If any of these caught your eye, I’ve linked everything over on my LTK so you can shop them directly & maybe find a few favorites for your own fall wardrobe too.

From classic staples to current trends, I'm rounding up my favorite picks for the season.

Fall is my favorite time of the year- cooler weather, lots of layers & of course, fall fashion. If it's one thing that working in fast fashion for almost 20 years taught me, it's that trends will come & go. So I really try to avoid micro trends that will be here today & gone tomorrow & focus on making smarter purchases.

If you're looking to add something new to your wardrobe this season, I've carefully selected 7 items that feel both timeless & trendy & that can easily be worked into your existing closet. Picking one or two of these items can help update those favorites from years past to feel more current. & Since some fashion trends cycles around about every 20 year, it was important to pick trends that will still be relevant for years to come.

  1. brown suede

Four people in brown suede jackets in various settings. Text in the center reads "Brown Suede." Casual, stylish vibe.

Last Fall we saw brown suede everywhere- from jackets, to bags & boots. I still see this as a timeless trend worth investing it. Suede is a great way to add texture to any outfit & all the different style of suede jackets just look so chic.

A suede jacket can be a great staple to elevate even the most basic outfit from boring to chic. It's also a great texture piece to play with.

  1. denim on denim

Four outfits featuring denim on denim. Top left: brown coat. Top right: elevator selfie. Bottom left: brown bag. Bottom right: green sweater.

Ahh the classic Canadian Tuxedo. This combo is a classic for a reason. It requires minimal effort, yet looks effortless & cool. For a more more current take on the trend, look for an oversized denim shirt & pair with your favorite denim jeans. Honestly, any style or fit will work. Wear the ones you love.

ways to wear-

It's totally ok to mix different shades of denim together- light, medium, dark. I just suggest sticking with denim that has similar undertones, like in the outfit above. For example, if my denim shirt has more indigo hues, I would avoid pairing it with jeans that have a green or brown undertone to them.

  1. sheer skirts

Four fashion images of women in sheer skirts with sweaters and jackets. Text reads "Sheer Skirts" in the center. Outdoor, varied settings.

While I have to admit the sheer skirt errs on the side of a fast fashion trend, I can't help but love all the different ways you can layer it for fall & how it can elevate those classic staples that you already own.

ways to wear-

The sheer skirt is great for adding texture to a monochromatic look, like above. You can also try playing with proportions & wear something move oversized if your skirt is fitted or drapes straight down. Pair it everything from a blazer or sweater to your favorite band tee or an oversized sweatshirt.

  1. loafers

Collage of loafers: black with white socks, brown with jeans, maroon with brown socks, and green. Text reads "LOAFERS." Neutral background.

A timeless staple that you can't go wrong with. If you're looking for a style that's a bit more current & trendy for right now, look for a chunky style sole. For a more timeless style, look for a loafer with a more slim bottom.

Brown loafers with black sheer socks and a brown knit skirt. The scene is set on a light wooden floor, conveying a classic style.

ways to wear-

With socks or without. Loafers aren't just for professional & dressier outfits. They even work with more casual staples like jeans & a cardigan or your favorite sweatshirt.

  1. denim trends

Four people showcase denim outfits in various settings. The central text reads "DENIM TRENDS." Styles include casual and chic.

I don't see barrel jeans going away anytime soon. But if that's not really your vibe, a classic slim straight denim is a great style to invest in. Think of the effortless outfits from the 90s.

Woman in sunglasses stands in doorway wearing a brown sleeveless top and blue jeans, holding a woven bag. Casual and stylish vibe.

ways to wear-

Find the best fit for your body type. Typically as a midsized gal, I love a good high-waisted denim that helps hold everything in & defines my waist line. Make sure you have enough room in the rise because nothing is worse than denim that rides up in all the most unflattering places.

  1. cropped jackets

Four people wear different cropped jackets in various settings: outside, at a bar, and on the street. Text: Cropped Jackets. Stylish vibe.

Blazers & trenches are great timeless staples every closet should have. But if you're looking for something a little more trendy this fall, you might want to try a cropped style. Just be sure to hold onto it this time because this is a fit that seems to cycles over again in fashion.

Young woman in a tan jacket and long denim skirt stands at a stylish bar with ornate bottles. She wears a scarf and handbag, exuding a chic vibe.

ways to wear-

With a cropped jacket you want to keep the rule of thirds top of mind. See how the above outfit just works? That's because her jacket & top take up 1/3 of her body. The other 2/3 of her look is her long maxi skirt. When wearing cropped jackets you want to keep your waistline defined. So that means tucking in your top or pairing with a shorter shirt.

  1. fur

Women in various fur jackets: brown, red, gray, and black. Backgrounds include city streets and indoors. Text reads "FUR JACKET."

I've always been a fan of fur- faux fur, thrifted fur, vintage fur. Once a statement piece usually only worn around the holidays or for special events, fur is finding it's way into everyday looks for fall. Literally a closest staple that will never go out of style if you stick to more neutral tones. I would avoid pop colors as they can quickly feel dated when a trend cycles out.

Woman in brown coat and jeans, holding a white bag, stands on a sunny sidewalk with a brick building and stairs in the background.

ways to wear-

Don't be afraid to wear your fur with a more casual outfit. Pull in accessories & shoes that feel more casual or sporty to help balance out the dressiness of the jacket. Playing with opposites here will help your fur jacket outfit feel more current & trendy.

Lastly, remember trendy pieces are great for keeping a well-love wardrobe feeling fresh & current, however they won't work if you don't have a strong foundation. When your base feels strong & true to you, it becomes so much easier to layer in trends in a way that actually works.

It's important that you know your personal style words & let them guide every new piece you add to your closet.

And remember: Not every trend is meant for everyone—& that’s more than okay. Your style is about what feels right for you.
